1. UBB Photoshoot Concept Collage - Collaged for Fall/Spring Shoots

Here is a collage of the hodgepodge of items I found in various fashion magazines (mostly Vogue and Elle) and then filtered in order to develop a scheme for my own upcoming photoshoots.

I try to look for photographs that I can pull color treatments from, concepts for shots, poses, as well as textures and locations.

I did not shoot these images, just collaged them in my sketchbook to create a solid idea out of a multitude of possible options.

When you feel just like a tourist, 2011

Film slides, Found objects, collage, and manipulation

This is from a series I’m currently working on using found film slides and placing them together to tell stories. Some of the stories are personal or studying human interaction but others, like this one, focus on the lines and colors of similar shots.

There will be more information about these shots and more coming on my website soon. To go there now: http://www.katharinefriedgen.com

  3. GPOY Wednesdays presents …

    A sketchbook GPOY, 2002

    Polaroid, ink, collage

This is a piece I have from my sketchbook where I used really old polaroid film and went on a polaroid spree. I then tried out marking up and working into the polaroids. To see more of my sketchbook pieces you can go to: http://www.katharinefriedgen.com/sketchbookgallery.html

  4. GPOY Wednesdays presents … “Sticks + Stones” Collage

This was a collage I made of the photographs taken when everyone was passing around a specific pair of glasses. We all interpreted our poses differently. You can find me in here too!

  5. Series Thursdays presents …

Work in Progress: Collaborative Collages with Danielle Hanifin

With some of Danielle’s photographs from Italy 2009, and my collages of old art books and acrylic paints, I’m hoping to create a series of works that take an individual out of a specific time and place and reinterpret their expression when placed in another scene.

These aren’t complete. I’m debating on whether I want to continue with either graphite, ink or thread. Or all three. Click on Danielle’s name to see more of her incredible photography.
