  2. Sketchbook Saturday Monday

    At the Magic Gardens, (GPOY)

Photo taken this weekend of me, by my friend Julia Hanke. We had an amazing time at the Magic Gardens on South St. this past Saturday. They had live music all day and into the night and we caught the duo version of the Tongue Sculptors which consisted of a woman singing harmony while playing upright bass and a man on vocals and electric guitar. It was an awesome, but sadly short set and I enjoyed it.

    Sleep (Self Portrait), 2011

    Happy Wednesday, Everyone!

Nothing could describe Wednesday more for me than the need for more sleep.

  4. GPOYWednesdays presents …

In the Philadelphia Magic Gardens (2011)

I know I’ve posted a lot from the PMGs recently - but there are some serious photogenic opportunities there. Jula and I took a really long time trying to get both of our faces int he shards of mirror glass on the wall but we didn’t succeed.

Enjoy the rest of your wednesday!

Weekend Debauchery - trying to create a profile pic, 2011

We’ve all been there. You’re out with your friends, maybe you’re dancing, maybe you just want to get in a circle around your pocket books - whatever it is. There’s a feeling you get. Like you look amazing. And it’s fleeting - you know that well - so you throw your friend the camera and expect them to Annie Liebovitz you. So sure of your success. You leave with dreams of making that one shot your defining image.

Much later, when the glitter has scattered, you take a look. Instead of the defining image you find more of a Van Gogh than what you thought it would be. You have a moment of disappointment, then you realize you like this picture for it’s errors.

And magically you have a profile picture that’s different. Or at least a GPOYW.

    A sketchbook GPOY, 2002

    Polaroid, ink, collage

This is a piece I have from my sketchbook where I used really old polaroid film and went on a polaroid spree. I then tried out marking up and working into the polaroids. To see more of my sketchbook pieces you can go to: http://www.katharinefriedgen.com/sketchbookgallery.html

    Braided on the Boat

    2011, Color Photograph

While relaxing this week on the boat with my parents, my mom snaps a candid of me after I braided my hair. Nothing like a quiet and cool vacation to calm and refresh you.

  8. GPOY Wednesdays presents…

    Painted Face

    Acrylic, 2006

I painted this just to see if I could handle acrylics without mixing it with other media. It was fun, but I find acrylic used as a texture is more effective in my work.

  9. GPOY Wednesdays presents …

United By Blue’s Winter 2011 line features a picture of me on the homepage wearing the 167 Bottles Shirt. It’s also on sale right now.

    Happy Wednesday, Tumblr!

  10. GPOY Wednesdays presents … “167 Bottles” Part II

The average American purchases 167 plastic water bottles a year

This shot is another from the United By Blue Summer 2011 Line which featured shirts that raised awareness of such issues as water pollution, the oil spill, overfishing and other issues effecting our oceans today.

So this is a picture of me in the 167 Bottles shirt in one of my favorite book stores in Philadelphia, The Book Trader.
